TROCA: USA / TROCA: Brasil was an art exchange initiated by Elana Mann that involved artists from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and Portland, OR, USA. Mann curated and produced the exchange in collaboration with Nan Curtis, former director of the Philip Feldman Gallery + Project Space, Pacific Northwest College of Art (PNCA), Portland, OR. In September 2005 five artists from A Gentil Carioca gallery, RJ, BR, including Ernesto Neto, Laura Lima, Marcio Botner, Marssares and Thiago Rocha Pitta, traveled to PNCA. While in residency at the college, the artists mounted an exhibit, gave lectures and performed. Subsequently, in January 2007 six artists from Portland, including Bruce Conkle, David Eckard, Emily Ginsburg, MK Guth, Don Olsen and Tamsie Ringler, along with eight students from PNCA traveled to A Gentil Carioca. While in residency at the gallery, the artists mounted an exhibit, gave lectures and performed live artworks. This project was made possible through generous support from PNCA and A Gentil Carioca.
