Artist Bailout: Renegade Bounty Exchange

Artist Bailout is a Los Angeles initiative that was inaugurated in the Spring of 2010 by Elana Mann and Autumn Rooney. The project is a community driven way to fund new work by artists during the economic crisis. This new philanthropic model brings together artists and patrons for a lunch, which is part performance part fundraiser and culminates in the presentation of two micro-grants for emerging artists.

Artist Bailout: Renegade Bounty Exchange was originally commissioned by the Angels Gate Cultural Center in San Pedro, CA. The project raised $900 from community members contributing $10 for lunch.  Eleven artists presented projects including: Liz Glynn, Evelyn Serrano, Juliana Snapper, the Journal of Aestetics and Protest Editorial Collective, Llano del rio, Laura Bouza, Edith Abeyta, Amor Fati, Owen Driggs, Anna Mayer, and Nancy Popp.  After the artist presentations the audience voted on two proposals to get funded.  In the end two artists, Edith Abeyta and Evelyn Serrano, were granted $450 each.  Artist Bailout: Renegade Bounty Exchange is a proud member of a growing international movement of community-generated grants for artists called Sunday Soup.
