Artist Bailout was founded by Elana Mann and Autumn Rooney in the spring of 2010 and the project has grown to be collectively organized and produced. In 2011, Artist Bailout invited six artists, including John Hogan and David Reich, Kristen Smiarowski, Louisa Van Leer, Kristy Baltezore, Creative Migration, and Ecstatic Energy Consultants, Inc. to present projects during a community meal. Each patron paid $10-$10,000,000 to buy a meal ticket and ballot. At the end of the meal, all the patrons voted on which two artists should be awarded micro-grants from the pot of $1,200 collected. John Hogan and David Reich, as well as Louisa Van Leer each won a $500 grant and Creative Migration was awarded a $200 grant. Artist Bailout: Renegade Bounty Exchange is a proud member of a growing international movement of community-generated grants for artists called Sunday Soup.
