On the cusp of the presidential inauguration of Donald Trump, this event will highlight artists who address racial justice in their artwork. Dorit Cypis will speak about her work as a dialogue facilitator with “Days of Dialogue,” an ongoing series of police-community dialogues across Los Angeles City and County. Derrick Maddox will perform a spoken word piece titled “For those who write reports,” relating an encounter he had with the LAPD. Elana Mann will talk about her mural, “Talk Through the Hand,” on the exterior wall of Baik Art. Thinh Nguyen will present on an artwork featuring T-shirts with slogans such as “I am racist” that he wears and is attempting to sell online. Curator Anuradha Vikram will then moderate a discussion between these artists and open up a space for dialogue with the audience.
